Jones
By Tamara Palmer
Rumor has it that the rooftop bar at Jones is the biggest in San Francisco. It’s certainly one of the most beautiful. Heat lamps, gorgeous wind-blocking greenery, and the promise of a cozy fire pit lure fashionable people up to enjoy the city’s moody fog and autumn finery. We think it’s the perfect spot for a series of seasonally-inspired small bites and special cocktails engineered exclusively for BBE. Spirited Bites is a special menu matching three small plates with three devilishly good cocktails. Baby back ribs—braised, then glazed with cilantro, ginger, and soy—are served with cabbage-apple slaw. Both the ribs and vegetarian tofu option are paired with a cocktail called a Two by Four: Bulleit Bourbon, Fair Café liqueur, and orange bitters—garnished with a flaming strip of zest. This is bar food as it was meant to be, a complement to the ambitious cocktails, not competition. Each bite and sip encourages another. After the sun goes down, the low lighting might have you scooting closer to the person sitting next to you, or perhaps the spirit will move you to get comfortable with another cocktail and small bite.

sweet seats

Indoor tables in Jones’ restaurant and lounge are big enough for multiple cocktails but feel intimate thanks to low light. If the fickle weather cooperates and you can find it, any perch in the outdoor patio is pure magic.
